2012 Q1 Mantra

At the end of 2009, I remember talking with Michelle late one night. We both had a strong sense that 2010 was going to be an incredible year. We didn’t know how, but we believed in faith that God had something in the works for us. I was feeling unsatisfied with my work, Michelle was between jobs, money was tight, and our marriage was on the tail end of one it’s biggest storms. To some, it may have been tough to feel how much good was ahead of us. Yet, we trusted and knew that God was up to something. Low and behold, it was the best year of our lives (up to that point). I landed a new job in March, Michelle found her dream job shortly after, we paid off a lot of debt, took our most memorable vacation to the Macy’s Day Parade in NYC, our marriage took off, and we had found an incredible and challenging new church home at LifeChurch.tv (where Michelle and I also found our new jobs).

As we enter 2012, I don’t quite have the same feeling I did at the beginning of 2010, but I do have an overwhelming vision of opportunity this new year brings…more than I ever have. I see a lot of vocational challenges (the good kind) and a chance to establish some solid family roots as we welcomed the birth of our first child, a boy, Truett. With all that can be accomplished this year, I have a tremendous amount of passion and focus to fulfill the calling I feel God has laid on my heart.

That’s a very long and elaborate explanation of a very mediocre bit of news. I create a wallpaper for my iPhone :)

Ok. I’m laughing a bit at myself now for that ridiculous build up. Nevertheless, I created one to remind me of my mantra for the first quarter of this year. It’s a consistent reminder to help keep me focused on all that I see can be accomplished this year. Feel free to download the image yourself and use it on your own phone!

Truett | A Meisner Family Film

On December 1, 2011, My wife and I had our worlds shifted as we welcomed the birth of our first born, Truett. It was a whirlwind of a ride, but at the end of it all, we were blessed with a wonderful baby boy. It was already an emotional day, but trying to capture moments through it all made it even more of an adventure. Here are some of my favorites put together to share a small piece of the story.

Also! Be sure to check out some amazing photos of the day from Hillary Johnson on my wife’s blog.

Jessica+Brian | Wedding Film

To be honest, the first time I met Jessica and Brian (in person) was at their rehearsal the night before the wedding. I was trying my best to soak in as much of who they were right away. It was about mid day that I realized even in the midst of all their friends and family, when they were together, everything else seemed to fall away. And their smiles never faded. Their friendship was something to be admired, and their love for each other and other people was easily evident. Even though I was in their life for only about 36 hours, I left the night feeling like I had just spent the day with some old friends. They’re just that solid! Read more »

Canon-1DX Pro HDSLR

I woke up today to a nice surprise.  Canon announced it’s newest edition to the pro photo/video DSLR line.  I have been an avid user of the Canon DSLR lineup since it’s release of the 7D back in 2009.  They have been my primary cameras for all the films I create and have loved all the benefits they provide for independent film making and professional photography.  I’m currently stuck on the 5D and absolutely love it.

Here is a quick rundown of the specs from the press release:
• Full Frame Sensor
• 12 FPS stills
• 14 FPS burst mode ( stills )
• 18.1 MP
• Dual DIGIC 5+
• Intraframe ALL-i video compression & IPB compression for HQ recording
• Continuous recording in video for 29 min 59 seconds
• Timecode compliant embedding with Free Run & Rec Run
• Manual audio controls taht can be adjusted while you shoot
• Built in LAN connection
• 61 AF points
• ISO range 100 – 51,200 ( w expanded ISOs at 50, 102,400 & 204,800 )

You can also find more information on here on –> Gizmodo + article & press release here –> Planet5D

While I am excited for the new releases from Canon, I’m interested to see if this is a worthy upgrade.  Especially at the speculated $7000 (body only) price point.

Needless to say, Canon has always been the leader in this new arena of integrated photo/video cameras and looks like they will continue to be.  Be on the lookout for their big time news later this year!  Should be huge.

LC Stories | The Author of Life

This project was quite a challenge for me. I’ve never had to merge 3 stories into 1 and there was quite a bit of learning that took place throughout the process.

When I tackled the piece, I quickly realized I wanted to keep the whole thing true to life to keep it from feeling too produced. To achieve that, I went with the monopod for the entire piece (with the exception of the ‘author’ scenes). Read more »
